When converting existing basements to living space, planning for egress or "ways to get out" of the basement (in case of fire, etc.) must be done. We can replace basement windows, stairways, doors, bulkheads or make other changes needed to meet MA building code and safety regulations.

Building a bathroom in a basement sometimes involves plumbing work to install water pumps or special toilet if basement is below grade and there is insufficient pitch of sewer pipe. We will check existing plumbing before working on any basement bathroom remodeling plan.

Complete basement remodeling jobs may involve moving wires, pipes, even moving complete heating systems or other utilities to maximize usable space.

Once design and planning work have been done, walls need to be framed to accomodate insulation, wiring, plumbing and heat as needed. Stairwells, stairs, steps, railings and landings may need to be renovated when basement storage areas are converted to living space, (den, family room, office, sports bar, laundry room or other uses).

Basement framing involved creating all the walls, doorways, window openings, ceiling and may include stair, tread / riser repair or renovation, bar or counter framing as well as any needed load bearing framing to support the structure above if existing load bearing supports are removed or relocated.

Before deciding on basement flooring, carpet, tile or concrete floor epoxy paint options, all structural waterproofing must be done, and in some cases a basement dehumidifier should be installed.
